For the TV junkies, the dreaded “winter hiatus” is among us. But don’t fret, January brings loads of drama filled series. Check out our cheat sheet of this season’s must watch TV.
1. The Big Bang Theory
Whether you’re a science nerd, or in need of a sarcastic fix, this sitcom is for you. The show’s premise revolves around a group of socially awkward physics professors in California navigating through life with their hot next door neighbor, Penny. The hot and cold relationship between Penny and Leonard, Howard’s outrageous outfit choices, and the quotable “Bazinga” of Sheldon are sure to keep us entertained. The series took a while to catch fire, but it’s now syndicated on TBS, FOX and CBS.
The show returns to CBS January 3.
If you have an affinity for deadpan sarcasm, than the The Mindy Project is great for you. Mindy is a gynecologist who is on a quest for love. She battles with her figure, her co-workers and the men of New York City. Find out what happens after Mindy discovers she is the “other woman” and publicly dumps her two timing boyfriend.
The show returns to FOX on January 8.
3. Scandal
Shonda Rhimes strikes gold once again with her hit drama Scandal. Watch as Washington D.C. crisis management expert Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) pieces together the lives of her clients while simultaneously fawning after her lover Fitzgerald Grant, the President of the United States. This popular show is suspenseful, shocking, and trust me you need those commercial breaks to recover.
The show return on January 10.
4. 30 Rock
Tina Fey’s unpredictable cult favorite comedy is unfortunately coming to an end in it’s seventh season. But Liz and the gang aren’t going to leave their fans in tears without a few laugh.
Tune in to see shenanigans of Tracy Jordan, Liz Lemon and Jack Donaghy January 10 on NBC.
5. Girls
Olivia Pope, Mindy Lahiri and Hannah Horvath are proving that the quintessential leading lady is no longer a rail thin, 5-foot-6 blonde.
Follow Hannah Horvath as she and her friends traverse life in the Big Apple without the glitz and glamour of having the perfect career, perfect boyfriend and perfect self image. “Girls” is a raw look at life in the city for real women who aren’t afraid to make mistakes and experience life as gritty as it is.
It returns to HBO on January 13.
“Modern Family” follows three families—mockumentary style—who are all related through the patriarch Jay and his two children Claire and Mitchell. Each family represents a family in America: Jay is married to a much younger woman, Gloria who has a son from a previous marriage, while Mitch and Cameron are a gay couple who have adopted a Vietnemese baby, Lily. While the premise may sound typical, the writers never cease to fill the script with sarcastic quips, priceless stolen glances, and valuable life lessons.
Watch as Gloria and Jay prepare to welcome their new baby, and Cam and Mitchell continue on their quest for another baby.
“Modern Family” returns to ABC on January 16.
Leslie Knope and the crew at the Parks and Recreation department in the fictional town of Pawnee Indiana are nothing short of amusing. The sitcom is a spinoff of the popular series “The Office”, taking after its mockumentary camera style. You won’t find another character on TV more lovable and endearing than Leslie Knope as she goes through hell to make sure her inner circle is tight. Each episode is replete with sarcasm from April Ludgate and bonehead remarks from Andy Dweyer.
“Parks and Recreation” returns to NBC on January 17.
