Kilo Kish‘s newest mixtape K+ delves into honesty and virtual carelessness with this collection of songs about life, love and, well, guys. With features from A$AP Ferg, Vinny Staples, Flatbush Zombies and more, this mixtape is something to remember. Kilo allows listeners see the process of creating the mixtape through her perspective, with skits featuring her friends and cleverly situated intros between tracks. On “ghost” the experimental rapper-slash-singer teams up with Childish Gambino for a more upbeat collabo than “Make it Go Right” from the suburban bar-dropper’s Royalty.
Another surprise jam is “iou,” a two-mintue cut that gives more of a dance floor vibe and extracts a fun David Banner reference. As the song builds, it ends abruptly, leaving room for a Part 2 (please?). Love goes wrong on the track “scones” but moves forward on “love2k” as Kilo boasts about being a “goofy black chick.”
K+ is more like hippie grunge than anything else, with much less mascara and more vulnerability. Don’t believe us? Listen and download below. — Desire Thompson
