A group of bobsledders are working to make history for Nigeria. Seun Adigun, Ngozi Onwumere, and Akuoma Omeoga hope to qualify for the 2018 Winter Games, in addition to establishing a bobsledding federation for the country and the entire continent of Africa.
Adigun, a driver for the Texas-based collective, started a GoFundMe page last month to help support their pursuits to become the first Nigerian team (male or female) to compete in the bobsled portion of the Winter Olympics.
Aside from going down in Olympic history, Adigun sees the potential feat as a win for people across the globe as it will “represent monumental international advancements in social, athletic, and economic statuses.”
The power trio is seemingly speaking their anticipated victory into existence, by sharing the perfect recipe for their foreseeable success: “A little faith, support and willingness to persevere.”
But, they still need some help along the way.
In order to fund their aspirations, the team will need $150,000 to cover the costs of a bobsled, tools, sled runners, shipping gear, and more. So far, they’ve been able to raise five percent of their goal, and are confident that they will reach their target just in time for competition in Pyeongchang, South Korea in 2018.
