Octavia Spencer will be making her TV series debut in the Steven Spielberg-produced Red Band Society.
Following the cancellation of Spielberg’s remake of Murder, She Wrote (also starring Spencer), the Oscar winner and director team up again for this Fox drama series. The coming-of-age story follows a group of unlikely teenagers living in a hospital that become friends. Octavia will play Nurse Jackson, a tough but intuitive nurse that doesn’t let anything get past her.
The award winning actress joins a myriad of black actresses and actors that currently have star-billing on television. Whether they’re sort of first timers like Michael Ealy, dominating the small screen like Kerry Washington, or back for a second round like Meagan Good; it’s refreshing to see more women and men of color taking over primetime.
