Seems like more trouble is cooking up for the Deen family. While Paula Deen has bounced back from last year’s racism scandal, her son Jamie Deen is proving that the apple may not have fallen far from the tree.
On June 13, Jamie posted a picture of himself kissing an older African-American woman with the caption: “Don’t tell Brooke [his wife] #jellyroll #sugar.”
The woman kissing Jamie, Ineata “Jellyroll” Jones, was at the center of all the racial controversy the Deen family faced last year. Many of Paula’s ex-employees claimed that she would make Jones dress in an old style Aunt Jemima outfit and cook for all of the customers to see.
In many communities, the word “jellyroll” is used as slang for female genitalia. Jones was given the name by the family, and while the Deen’s say it is just a loving nickname, others find it to be extremely racist.
One woman tweeted, “Wow, did Paula Deen really call one of her workers JellyRoll? I find that more offensive than the N-word.”
