Another video of New York’s finest on the job has surfaced and this is may be one of the most disturbing one yet.
Yesterday, a Facebook clip of a pregnant woman being slammed to the ground by a NYPD officer went viral. In a cell phone generated video, five months pregnant Sandra Amezquita is seen being grabbed by a 72nd Precinct officer and thrown down belly first into the pavement in the Sunset Park section of Brooklyn.
“You would think the police would respect a woman that is pregnant,” she told the NY Daily News through an interpreter. After Amezquita, who is 5 foot 4, was thrown to the ground, the officer can be seen putting his knee into her back.
The incident, which took place around 2 a.m last Saturday (Sept. 20), occurred after Amezquita’s 17-year-old son, Jhohan Lemos, was arrested for having a knife pinned to his belt. Amezquita and Jhohan’s father, Ronel Lemos, said the cries of their son being beaten during the arrest is what caused them to interfere.
After the incident, the 44-year-old suffered vaginal bleeding and bruises on her arms and pregnant belly.
“I was afraid something happened to my baby. I am still afraid that something is wrong,” said the mother of four referring to her abdominal pain.
Amezquita was given a summons for disorderly conduct while her husband was arrested for striking an officer in the back while he was arresting his son. The officer involved is currently under investigation by the NYPD Internal Affairs Bureau, which makes him the second officer in a week from that Precinct to be investigated.
