On Sunday, Feb. 14, Public School will send models down the runway for their Fall 2016 New York Fashion Week women’s presentation wearing sleek tech accessories.
According to WWD, Public School cofounders Dao-Yi Chow and Maxwell Osborne worked on the range of accessories for Fitbit’s upcoming Alta activity tracker, the company’s first-ever female-focused fitness tracker. “A big thing we’ve realized is that to make wearables mainstream we need to give people a choice…and have it be integrated in people’s wardrobes,” said James Park, chief executive officer of Fitbit.
Chow and Osbourne created five prototypes: a braided bracelet made of a stretchy nylon cord, a watch with a hollow space, a rubber band version, a bangle and a twisted cable. “What we’re trying to do with Fitbit is put a more organic face onto technology so it can seamlessly integrate into your everyday life — so it’s not really technology, but an accessory that has technology in it,” said Chow.
While the pieces we’ll see on the runway are specifically designed for the runway, it will give you a feel for the direction of what will be available later this year in retail. Alta goes on sale March 1 for $129.95.
