If you take a stroll down Dana Lawrence’s accolades and you’ll see her first attempt at The Queen Latifah Show from 1999-2001. And after success in many other fields, Queen Latifah is bringing back her talk series that’s set to air September 16 on CBS. The actress teamed up with longtime friend and Executive Producer Jada Pinkett Smith to give a new flavor to daytime TV.
The Queen follows the road many blacks women have successfully traveled. Take a look at past black talk show hosts Ms. Latifah can use for reference if ever she needs it.
The Oprah Winfrey Show lasted 25 seasons from 1986 to 2011. It went down as on of the longest-running daytime television shows and the highest-rated talk show in American TV history—making her the true queen of daytime talk show.
Wendy Williams
Wendy Wiliams is probably the most hated and loved talk show host. The Queen of Gossip took her talents to daytime and nighttime TV and after several failed attempts, she succeeded with her most recent endeavor, The Wendy Williams Show. The show began in 2008 and has been renewed through 2017.
Iyanla Vanzant
Before Iyanla fixed celebrities lives on the OWN channel, she hosted her own TV show, Iyanla.
This model/talk show hosted The Tyra Show while continuing her model competition show America’s Next Top Model. While ANTM is on it’s 20th cycle the TB show ended in 2010 after 5 years.
Mother Love and Robin Givens
Known mainly by her stage name Mother Love, Jo Anne Hart hosted Forgive or Forget from 1998 to 2000.
Whoopi Goldberg, Sherri Shepherd, and Star Jones
Star Jones started as the original co-host of 5-woman casted talk show, The View, in 1997. Whoopi joined the highly popular show in 2007 to replace Rosie O’Donnell after O’Donnell blogged that she wanted Goldberg to take over. Later on Star Jones joined the crew.

The popular comedian hosted her own talk show The Wanda Sykes Show on Fox. The late Saturday night show lasted one season from 2009 to 2010.

The former child star continued her career with her own show, The Tempestt Bledsoe Show. The short lived talk series lasted from 1995 to 1996.
Ananda Lewis
Ananda began her career hosting BET’s Teen Summit for 3 seasons. She moved on to be a veejay on MTV but in 2001 she left to debut her own talk show, The Ananda Lewis show but it was canceled after one season.

Arthel Neville
Arthel is no stranger to hosting shows. Before joining CNN with her own talk show, Talk Back Live with Arthel Neville, she produced many shows like E!, Talk Soup, and Extra. Her CNN debut was short lived, TBL was discontinued in 2003.
