R. Kelly has been removed as the headliner of the Fashion Meets Music Festival. Apparently, past allegations of inappropriate behavior with underage girls still haunt the 47-year-old singer, The Columbus Dispatch reports. Turns out, that after the pied piper was named headliner of the Columbus, OH event, it made some locals feel some type of way.
First, two of the community folk acts scheduled to play, Saintseneca and Damn the Witch Siren, removed themselves from the lineup because Kelly was part of the festivities. After those two bands withdrew, local radio station WCBE decided that they would no longer sponsor the festival.
“We wanted to make sure we heard the Columbus listeners … to make a statement and support the city we live in,” said festival spokeswoman Melissa Dickson, who recruited a public-relations firm to help them clean up their mess.
Since his removal from the Labor Day weekend shindig, his camp has released a statement:
“R. Kelly is sorry to disappoint his fans but looks forward to seeing them in the near future during one of his upcoming tours.”
