[Patti] LaBelle’s 1975 “Lady Marmalade” has been quite the musical staple for decades and counting.
The provocative track has only been remixed once and that was back in 2001 when Christina Aguilera, Lil Kim, Mya and Pink brought equal parts of sassiness and edge to the classic tune for that summer’s Moulin Rouge film soundtrack. Not to mention, the remake topped the Billboard Hot 100 for several weeks.
Now, British songbird Rita Ora, who has made her love for both the original and 2001 cover known, is hoping that three times is truly a charm. Ora recently told The Sun that she wanted to recreate the song with some of the hottest pop stars of today, as reported by Billboard. “I’m trying to round up the troops,” she said. “I think it would be me, Miley [Cyrus], Charli XCX — she’d be fun — and Iggy [Azalea].”
After Ora’s statement, “Lady Marmalade” became the trending topic on Monday (Octy. 12) with fans sharing their thoughts of Ora’s idea. Recently, one of the gals Rita hoped to join in on the remake pumped the breaks quickly on the whole idea. According to Iggy Azalea, she has “nothing to do” with the idea and hopes for it to be “left alone.”
Please leave me out of the whole Lady Marmalade conversation. I have nothing to do with ritas ideas & agree it should be left alone. Thanks
