Middle Eastern artist Saint Hoax is causing controversy with his latest work, which uses iconic images of Disney Princesses to expose the realities of sexual abuse within families.
The shocking pictures show Sleeping Beauty, Ariel and Aladdin’s Jasmine being forced to kiss their own fathers with a message at the bottom of each poster stating:
“46% of minors who are raped are victims of family members. It’s never too late to report your attack”
Saint Hoax hopes the eyebrow-raising campaign will shed light on the issue of incest, and hopefully—by using images that children identify with—will inspire victims to speak out.
“The aim of the poster series is to encourage victims to report their cases in order for the authorities to prevent it from happening again,” The artist told the Mail Online, “I recently learned that one of my closest friends was molested by her father when she was seven. It took her 14 years to be able to share that traumatizing experience, and that story shocked me to my core.”
He added: “As an artist and activist, I decided to shed light on that topic again in a new form. I used Disney princess because it’s a visual language that my targeted audience would be attracted to.”
The appropriately-titled The Princest Diaries can be found on his website, alongside other risqué piece called Happy Never After—a series of pictures using Disney Princesses once again—this time with black eyes and bloody noses to raise awareness on domestic violence.
His use of Disney imagery may be uncomfortable to view, but his message is definitely one we all need to see.
