Singer Shontelle is taking it back to her roots with a new line of bootsin partnership with Cat Footwear. The shoes are inspired by locations on the Caribbean island symbolizing pieces of her Barbados home “that’s close to her heart.”
The “Impossible” songstress told Global Grind that the four shoe styles depict not only things about Barbados, but herself. “I feel as though I have had to embrace and conquer the seemingly impossible and find my own independence. This collaboration is an expression of that desire and of all my hopes and dreams.”
As a stamp of her culture, the trident symbol on the Bajan flag is imprinted into every boot designed. “It is prominent on our flag and is our national symbol of independence,” she said. “I apply that to my life.”
When asked about being compared to fellow Bajan native Rihanna, Shontelle said once you become a public figure people will always compare you to another “but that is the nature of being in the public.” The singer added, “It’s a blessing to even be in a place in life to be compared to the biggest pop star in the world.”
Shontelle isn’t putting the mic down entirely as she is also working hard on a new album too. “Growth and evolution” are some of the elements that fans can expect as well as big-name collaborations. “My fans demand is, so they’re gonna get it,” she said.–Camille Augustin
