Landing a spot on XXL‘s Freshman list, has become a rapper rite-of-passage. Though the cover is no longer as coveted as it once was, it still serves as a career-launching co-sign nonetheless. Monday (May 6th) the publication unveiled their annual issue, but with not a single femcee among the ranks, the disappointing dozen failed to gain our attention. XXL editors even included an R&B singer among the rap pack—a new precedent this year—before lending the spot to a worthy female competitor.
