Preparing to hit the road with Souled Out star, Jhene Aiko in two weeks for the “Enter the Void Tour,” we get new music from SZA.
Top Dawg Entertainment’s leading lady releases “Sobriety,” a new song that’ll have you in your feelings. The freckled-face singer-songwriter, SZA gets real about her heartbreak in the new track, produced by Thundercat with Chris Calor, Cody, LoveDragon and Soundwave.
SZA digs deep and mellows out on the tune, singing about the consequences of love (“She ain’t got no soul / She ain’t got no heart / Love will stunt your growth / Love will make it hard to stay sober”) and getting high (“I been through like six swishers / In one day with one grape and one blueberry / What would my mother say, she want me to be married / And happy and whole not high and alone.”) While she convinces herself that everything is going to be all right in the chorus, she ends the track with uncertainty on her sobriety and fighting to stay alive.
