Target Corporation is currently under much scrutiny for their Annie clothing in-store ad campaign. The current Annie movie stars a young African American actress, Quvenzhané Wallis, but the face of the young lady in the ads representing Annie, is white.
Wallis is the 11-year-old superstar of the remake, she is cute, articulate, and very likable. Could it be Wallis is not featured on the ad because she is African American? Many are asking that exact question.
“At least one model featured in their Annie campaign is African American” says Target to FOX411.
LaSean Rinique , who started a Change.org petition against the campaign, wasn’t at all satisfied with Target’s answer. She started the online petition after her daughter, noticed the white model wearing Annie’s signature red dress. More than 10,000 people have signed the petition asking Target to drop the ads.
Target stated they initially spoke to lead actress Quvenzhané and her team, about being in the ad but it never worked out.
The limited Annie collection and in store ads will be out of the store by the end of this week to make room for new merchandise.
