President Obama and the First Lady will be hosting the Women of Soul concert as a part of their ‘In Performance at the White House” series today (Mar. 6). According to a press release, they will be inviting several musical legends and contemporary female artists to celebration the great “foremothers” of American music. Participants include Aretha Franklin, Patti LaBelle, Tessanne Chin, Melissa Etheridge, Ariana Grande, Janelle Monae and Jill Scott, with Greg Phillinganes as the music director.
In addition to the performance, Mrs. Obama will also be hosting a special daytime workshop for students—as she usually does for music events in the White House. She will welcome 124 middle school, high school and college students from across the country to take part in an interactive student workshop: “I’m Every Woman: The History of Women in Soul.”
