With only a few months left in 2012, now is the perfect time to rock the color of the year: tangerine. It’s a luscious lip color that’s been popping up on pouts everywhere, including on the mouths of Jennifer Hudson and Amber Rose.
This is a versatile color that can work for anyone; darker skin tones can choose shades with more orangey hues, while lighter skin tones can opt for shades that veer more towards the peachy side. Shades of coral are universally flattering.

Exfoliate your lips.
This is especially important if the lipstick you’re using is matte. Exfoliating your lips can be as simple as rubbing them with a warm washcloth or making your own sugar scrub.
Moisturize your lips.
Aquaphor, Vaseline or any other lip balm you use is just fine. Make sure you blot it off before actually applying any product.
Apply your lip primer.
BH Cosmetics makes a great, inexpensive primer that does double duty, working on both eyes and lips. Some makeup artists will blot the lips out with concealer if there’s no primer on hand.
Use a complimentary lip liner.
This is vital if you’re using a bright color or if your lipstick is prone to bleeding. Color in the whole lip with liner if you want to make the color bolder or if you didn’t use a concealer or lip primer; it will help the lipstick last longer.
Apply your lipstick (and add gloss if you want).
Starting with a dab at the center and blending outwards. Don’t forget to smile!
