If you fancy yourself a 21st Century urban warrior, Booker is the second-skin armor for you. This motorcycle wear-inspired collection combines the easy rider’s penchant for controlled mayhem, with the fashionista’s appreciation for distinctive silhouettes (in sumptuous textures). Jameelah Booker, the brand’s founder, designs with women like herself in mind: confident in their decisions to live in the moment; possessing backbones and style sensibilities that are equally strong.
A native of L.A.’s most notorious neighborhood, South Central, Ms. Booker’s path to the fashionable life was anything but charmed. Fortunately, the call of her dreams was stronger than the daily threats of violence. After a year at Otis College of Art and Design in California, Ms. Booker boldly struck out for New York City and began to work her way up the fashion ladder. Her talent and tenacity ultimately propelled her from the stock room to a role as Creative Director for an international brand, within a few short years.
During her professional rise, Ms. Booker experimented with life in another fast lane—in the motorcycle saddle. It was love at first spin and as she explored the culture, the seeds for what would become Booker were planted.
As high fashion revels in 90s grunge style, Booker’s capsule collection is both on-trend and futuristic. When the brand’s outerwear launches this fall, its proprietary mix of fashion and function will leave the competition eating dust.
