Before reading any further, let’s define trap gospel: a mix of secular, trap music blended with inspirational, gospel music. Now that that’s clear, Erica Campbell, one half of the sister gospel duo Mary, Mary, is getting side eyes for her new single, “I Luh God.” And yes, I spelled that right.
The song starts off with:
“I luh God, you don’t luh God?… What’s wrong with you?”
“Everyone doesn’t speak properly. Everyone doesn’t live in a well-maintained manicured neighborhood. People live in rough neighborhoods and they speak how they speak. No matter where you are, you have to acknowledge that you’re blessed. Everybody don’t like it. Some people are upset about it, but they’ll be all right. God don’t live in a box. Why should I?”
Vixens, what do you think of Erica’s new song? Is trap gospel an effective way to reach a wider fan base? Or has it taken gospel too far?
