Tupac Shakur continues to flourish posthumously. While many continue to debate his death, John Singleton signs on to rewrite, produce and direct his biopic.
The rapper, whose storytelling and lyricism earned him critical acclaim, built a special relationship with the Boyz in the Hood director during his short life.
“Tupac was a guy who I planned to do a lifetime of films with,” Singleton says of the slain rapper. “His passing deeply affected my life as well as countless people in this world. His life story is important to my generation.”
There’s no word on who will take on the challenging role, but the movie is expected to begin filming this summer. The highly anticipated project follows the opening of “Holler,” a musical inspired by his work and set to open this spring.
