Women on TV haven’t always been wives of basketball players or the crazy side-chick of our favorite rappers. In the 90’s we saw wholesome ladies on sitcoms. Since the Huxtable sisters, Tempestt Bledsoe and Keisha Knight-Pulliam, are due to reunite on TV we took a stroll down memory lane to countdown 5 of our favorite big sisters on TV.
1. Moesha
In Brandy’s breakout role, the singer-turned-actress was the perfect fusion of cool and classy. Moesha never failed to get mixed up in a mess with her brother or her trouble-some boyfriend.
Will Smith’s ditzy cousin Hilary Banks (Karyn Parsons) brought laughs to every scene in The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. The weather-girl served up hot 90’s fashion and fierce curly tresses throughout the seasons.
We all remember Raven as Olivia from the Cosby Show, but the adorable child-star grew into a Disney sensation when she played a psychic version of herself on That’s So Raven. In each episode Raven was always involved in crazy shenanigans with her mischievous little brother.
As the only girl on the Smart Guy cast, Yvette Henderson (Essence Atkins) definitely held her own. Yvette was the quintessential older sister; popular, cute and lovable. What set Yvette apart from her quirky cast mates was her quick wit—she never let anyone get over on her.
Who remembers Nessa (Camile Winbush) from the Bernie Mac show? This pretty young thing played the older sister to two rambunctious kiddies who stole the peace and quiet from Bernie Mac and his wife every chance they had. ‘Nessa had a take-no-prisoners attitude when it came to disciplining her younger siblings, and any girl who was responsible for babysitting could relate!
