When it comes to natural home remedies, most of us use traditions and solutions that have been passed down from several generations. Grandma has used it for years, and it has always “seemed” to work. But are the remedies really effective? Here are 3 popular natural skin care remedies that should be revisited. – Camille Augustin
1. Crushed Mint Leaves For Dark Circles
According to dermatologist Nicki Zevola mint acts as a contact allergy. And although it contains antioxidants and vitamin A, it lacks a high concentration. A fair amount of these essential ingredients are needed in order to effectively treat under-eye circles. And sadly, almonds don’t make the cut. Needless to say, this natural ingredient is better off in your tea.
2. Toothpaste For Pimples
This is a common home remedy to get rid of a pesky pimple, but it will only burn the damaged skin and dry it’s surface. The Triclosan in toothpaste is used as a repellent of bacteria that’s also found in soaps and deodorants, but this can also leave the skin inflamed causing more disturbance to the skin.
3. Almonds As Facial Mask
Almonds host many antioxidants and are bountiful in calcium, but using them as a mask doesn’t add extra benefits to the skin. Zevola says they lack sunscreen and other topical essentials like peptides and retinoids needed to treat acne and skin conditions. This type of nut should be consumed rather than used as a facial mask.
