Fashion week season is currently underway. New York Fashion Week and London Fashion Week have passed. But, Milan Fashion Week is here and Paris Fashion Week will be arriving soon.
As we look at all the new garments on the runway, there are some new faces showing off their beautifully crafted collections.
Here are five fashion designers we are falling in love with in the ever evolving fashion industry:
With a background that includes interning for Micheal Kors and working for the legendary Alexander McQueen, Samantha Black is one fashion designer worth watching. Known for her two fashion lines, Sammy B and Samantha Black, she creates fashion forward looks that appeal to the masses. Her fall 2012 collection featured a jewel tones mixed with accents of fur. Toccara Jones even made a guest appearance on the runway showcasing one of her many autumn pieces.
Darlene and Lizzy Okpo is the sisterly team behind the emerging fashion line, William Okpo. The concept behind creating their own fashion company was inspired by their Nigerian father’s style: masculine with a hint of soft edge. The sisters presented their latest collection as a part of Gen Art, an organization that highlights future stars of fashion week. Their fall collection consists of texture, plaid prints and sportswear.
It was two years ago, when LaQuan Smith made his debut at New York Fashion Week with his “Water Goddess” fashion show. LaQuan Smith garments have been spotted on Tika Sumpter, Lady Gaga and Alicia Keys just to name a few. At 23 years old, LaQuan continues to make splashes in the world of fashion with his “Robotic Dream” collection. The collection showcases space age element with a night club feel with bodysuits, flared skirts, and crop tops.
To-Tam and To-Nya Sachika are identical twin designers behind the up and coming fashion company, Sachika. Their fashion line is all about encouraging women to be independent, fierce, and ambitious. During New York Fashion Week, the twin sisters unveiled their Fall/Winter 2012 collection “Ivanka –If We Ever Again”. The collection featured silk, satin, and wool gowns within a color story of white, red, auburn, and blue. Eva Marcille made a surprise appearance on the runway strutting down the runway in four Sachika looks.
On the 5th season of Project Runway, Korto was a fan favorite and the first runner up with her debut New Fashion Week spring 2009 collection. After her reality fashion show fame, Korto continued to make strides as a fashion designer creating eco-friendly jewelry and displaying more collections on the big apple catwalk. Her latest collection was inspired by Grace Kelly and Bridget Bardot with luxurious gowns and jumpsuits. We can’t wait to see what she does next season.
