Unlike his debut single, “I Luv This Shit,” August Alsina uses his tumultuous upbringing to inspire his latest track, “Benediction.” With a little assistance from Rick Ross, the tatted singer takes us on a tour through his turbulent past
“As an artist I struggle with how much of myself to give to the people; how much I want my personal business to be judged,” he reveals. Unlike many of his counterparts, the Def Jam signee doesn’t just focus on dropping panties, but also finds it important to tell his life’s story. “Nothing is held back on Testimony. When people hear my story, and see that I came from nothing, they’ll see that it’s possible for them too.” This is the second single he’s released from his debut album, which drops April 15th, the birthday of his deceased older brother, Melvin.
