The hood raised him, but academics shaped him. A 17-year-old Oakland high school senior is raising eyebrows and challenging stereotypes as he receives acceptance letters from the nation’s top universities. The honor roll student, Akintunde Ahmad, has a 5.0 GPA and a 2100 SAT score. Despite the recent publicity surrounding outstanding achievements, the Cali-native believes that he is a regular “street dude” and a product of his environment.
In an interview with ABC news, Ahmad says that he is often judged on his appearance and has decided to carry a snap shot of his credentials in his smart phone to prove naysayers wrong. The talented teen also plays three instruments and brings it on the baseball field. Ahmad says that he is a proud product of Oakland’s public schools system and credits his parents for instilling the importance of education in him.
