For the latter part of Beyoncé’s life she’s been a business; making music that appeases the masses instead of what’s true to herself. This time around, she did everything on her own accord about what she wanted to share and what felt right to her . On the 5th installment of her documentary entitled “Honesty,” the singer opens up about her own growth, the fans and her music.
“I started out when I was 9 with the girls of Destiny’s Child–now I’m in my 30s, and those children that grew up listening to me have grown up, and I always felt like it was my responsibility to be aware of kids and their parents and all these generations,” she said about her latest musical project. “I’ve done so many things in my life, in my career, that I feel like at this point I’ve earned the right to be me and to express any and every side of myself.”
She goes into further breakdown of “Rocket” a video exceedingly sensual and simple as the love-making lyrics. She praises the artists that worked with her; “Justin Timberlake, Miguel and myself all worked together to write ‘Rocket,'” and their openness to work together. She also recalls surprising Justin with how engulfed she became in the song while they worked together, “Um, wow, there’s something wrong with you,” Timberlake tells Yoncé in awe. “That is–there’s something wrong with you.”
While she’s been breaking down each song on different installments of her Self-Titled video journey, she gets personal and honest on this one. Press play to watch in full.
