While millions of music lovers were going H.A.M. over Jay-Z and Kanye West’s “Watch The Throne” album, Rolling Stone Magazine were giving the crown to another rapper altogether: Eminem.
The magazine released a “Top 20 King of Hip-Hop Index” and Rapper Eminem took the number one spot. Eminem beat out fan favorites like Drake, Lil Wayne, Kanye West and Jay-Z (who did make it into the Top 5).
Rolling Stone’s ranking raised criticism among Hip Hop enthusiasts who felt Eminem was far from deserving of the title. Rolling Stone countered that they analyzed data like album sales, YouTube hits, and social networking popularity to determine who topped the list.
Their explanation wasn’t enough for some critics, who argued that Eminem took the #1 spot due to the fact that he’s a successful white rapper not because he’s the most talented.
What do you think of Eminem being crowned King of Hip Hop in Rolling Stone Magazine? Do you buy Rolling Stone’s assertion that “numbers don’t lie”?
