TGIF’s lineup was always something to look forward to during the ’90s. From Step By Step to Full House, Friday nights were always filled with laughter. Actor Mark Curry (Mark Cooper) took viewers into the world of an NBA player-turned-substitute teacher/gym coach when he starred in the hit series Hangin’ With Mr. Cooper (1992-1997). Co-stars like Holly Robinson Peete (Vanessa Russell) and Raven Symoné (Nicole Lee) made the show’s storyline an instant hit for adults and children.
Although it’s been 15 years since the sitcom’s end, the majority of the cast members have done a good job at remaining in the limelight.
Take a peak at where they are now!
Mark Curry: Mark Cooper
As the star of the show, the funny guy has kept his face quite relevant over the past decade and a half. From hosting Showtime at the Apollo and Comedy Central’s Don’t Forget Your Toothbrush to acting in For Your Love and Disney films, Curry has remained a fan favorite.
A near death experience in 2006 which left 20% of his body burned had Curry contemplating suicide. But with the help and support of friends, he decided against it and five years later you can catch him on Nickelodeon’s first-ever original live-action family comedy series, See Dad Run as Scott Baio’s friend Marcus.
Holly Robinson Peete: Vanessa Russell
The gorgeous actress captured viewers hearts with her role as Mark’s love interest, but she has come a long way since those days. From penning her own children’s book My Brother Charlie, which won her an NAACP Image Award, to acting in latest 21 Jump Street, she is one busy woman.
Holly is an active mom and largely involved in educating people about autism, a condition one of her children has. Recently, she attended the 26th Anniversary Carousel of Hope Ball.
Dawnn Lewis: Robin Dumars
The decision for this pretty-faced Vixen to leave A Different World for this sitcom was a smart business move. The singer-slash-actress released her debut CD in 2006 entitled Worth Waiting For. She has appeared in numerous TV series and currently plays Dr. Knapp on the soap opera Days of Our Lives.
Raven-Symoné: Nicole Lee
Success hasn’t left Raven’s side since starring as the precocious little cousin of Mark. The multi-talented star has starred in her own Disney TV show That’s So Raven, hit the big screen with her roles in Doctor Dolittle and the Cheetah Girls and gained Billboard notability with the release of four studio albums.
The 26-year-old is on a never-ending journey to the top. This year she starred on Broadway as Deloris van Cartie in Sister Act and is currently promoting her new animated film Secret of Wings.
Saundra Quarterman: Geneva Lee
Quarterman’s role as the energetic mom and cousin of Mark led her to roles in All My Children and Generations. The actress has been out of the spotlight since 2007 at The World Stage where she read two of her poems.
Marquise Wilson: Tyler Foster
Everyone’s favorite annoying neighbor has fallen out of the limelight and has become an entrepreneur with his own clothing line called Canna-Wear Clothing. It features a unique collection of marijuana inspired hoodies. You can follow Marquise on Twitter to find out what he’s up to daily.
Omar Gooding: Earvin Rodman
Since the show’s end, Cuba Gooding Jr.’s little brother made a name for himself with his role as Sweetpea in Baby Boy. He is still acting and, according to his Twitter page, will be in the upcoming film Christmas in Compton set to hit theaters November 9.
Nell Carter: Pamela Jane “PJ” Moore
Although Ms. Carter passed away in 2003 from heart disease, her role as Principal of Oakbridge High was unforgettable.
