The chemistry between Monica and Quincy in Love & Basketball is something we all vied for in a soul mate when we first saw this film. If all’s fair in love and basketball, these two love birds certainly played for keeps. There was simply nothing sweeter than seeing the childhood sweethearts steal each other’s heart and withstand the tribulations of life only to be bought even closer by the film’s end.
It’s been well over a decade since the Gina Prince-Bythewood-directed hit the big screens and became a cult fan favorite. Since, many members of the cast have gone on to attain major roles in critically acclaimed movies and TV series.
Take a look at what Sanaa Lathan, Omar Epps and the rest of the starring clan have been up to.
SANAA LATHAN as Monica Wright
Since her breakout on screen performance as the leading lady in the critically acclaimed black romance film Love & Basketball, Sanaa Lathan has gone on to star in Brown Sugar, Something New, Out of Time, Tyler Perry’s The Family That Preys, NBC’s A Raisin in the Sun and tackle many other spotlit roles. She’s currently starring in The Cleveland Show, as well as the Starz’ original series Boss alongside of Kelsey Grammer.
Suffice it to say, Sanaa has been one busy Vixen, ageing gracefully in the process.
OMAR EPPS as Quincy McCall
Following his role as an NBA hopeful, Omar Epps went on to star in Dracula 2000 and ER. He has also spent the last eight years starring in the hit TV medical drama House M.D, alongside Hugh Laurie, which wrapped up its final season in May.
When he’s not acting, Omar’s taking care of his three children with wife and offscreen soul mate Keisha Spivey of Bad Boy’s R&B girl group Total.
ALFRE WOODARD as Camille Wright
No stranger to Hollywood, onscreen queen Alfre Woodard reunited with Sanaa Lathan twice, following her role as Camille Wright, playing her mom once again in Something New and Tyler Perry’s A Family That Preys. Other films under her belt in recent years include Take the Lead, Beauty Shop, American Violet and Lifetime’s Steel Magnolias.
In addition to film, Alfre currently plays Lafayette’s sassy and eccentric mother on HBO’s original series True Blood.
DENNIS HAYSBERT as Zeke McCall
You may recognize him from All State Insurance commercials, but in addition to lending his baritone voice as All State’s official spokesman, this actor has been quite the busy guy starring in motion pictures such as Empire, Goodbye Bafana and Jarhead and doing voiceover work for animated films, including Kung Fu Panda, Justice League and Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas.
For all you video game aficionado’s Haysbert will be voicing the character of Hero’s Duty in upcoming animated film Wreck it Ralph.
KYLA PRATT as the younger Monica Wright
Kyla Pratt’s been a TV favorite since her debut in Love & Basketball. In addition to her cameos in Moesha, The Hugley’s and The Parkers, Kyla simultaneously balanced playing the leading lady in Disney’s The Proud Family as Penny Proud and in One On One as Breanna alongside Flex Alexander.
Kyla’s currently balancing motherhood and the role of Crystal Whitmore in BET’s Let’s Stay Together.
HARRY LENNIX as Nathan Wright
Harry went on to star in The Matrix films, Barbershop 2 and Stomp the Yard. He reunited with his Love & Basketball co-stars Omar Epps in House and Regina Hall in Law & Order: LA.
Be sure to look out for him in the 2013 film Man of Steel and the new CW series Emily Owens M.D.
DEBBI MORGAN as Mona McCall
In addition to being a Soap Opera TV regular starring in over 500 episodes of The Bold and the Beautiful, All My Children and The Young and the Restless collectively, Deborah Morgan has gone on to star in Woman Thou Art Loosed and Coach Carter.
REGINA HALL as Lena Wright
Having recently starred in Think Like a Man, Regina previously appeared in the Scary Movie films, Paid in Full and the Law & Order: LA series.
