Long before his 2000 album release, Cam’Ron was about Sports, Drugs and Entertainment. The Harlem World hit maker has always blessed the music world with a mashup of sports references in his rhymes so fluidly because Cam lived that life. As nationally recruited high school basketball player, Cam often shared the court with would be NBA players from his era like Stephon Marbury, Rafer Alston and Tim Thomas.
A torn hamstring, suffered while playing at a junior college in Texas, put his hoop dreams on hold before he could make it to the University of Miami on a full scholarship. But upon his return to New York City, he blew up on the rap scene and the rest is a hip hop catalog matched by very few.
Cam celebrated his 38th birthday recently and his Instagram feed—along with his girlfriend Juju’s and Dame Dash’s— has been turnt to a level Dip Set fans have come to expect. In tribute to the man who blams with the blammers, I decided to take a look at some his best sports references ever.
