The 2022 Emmy Awards brought television’s biggest stars to Los Angeles’ Microsoft Theater on Monday night (Sept. 12).
Kenan Thompson hosted the star-studded ceremony with special guest appearances from Good Burger co-star Kel Mitchell, a bit from The Simpsons, and a bar gag featuring Kumail Nanjiani and Jason Sudeikis.
Winners of the night included Zendaya (Euphoria), who snagged her second career Emmy. Abbott Elementary’s Quinta Brunson earned her first trophy and made history as the first to win the honor solo. Lizzo (Big Grrrls) garnered her first award and reached the halfway point of EGOT status. Lastly, the incomparable Sheryl Lee Ralph (Abbott Elementary) won her very first Emmy and capped her win with a song in her iconic speech where she celebrates the dreamers. The moment became one of the most memorable highlights of the night.
“To anyone who has ever, ever had a dream and thought your dream wasn’t, wouldn’t, couldn’t come true, I am here to tell you that this is what believing looks like. This is what striving looks like,” the acclaimed actress declared to the roaring crowd.
“And don’t you ever, ever give up on you. Because if you get a Quinta Brunson in your corner, if you get a husband like mine in your corner, if you get children like mine in your corner, and if you’ve got friends like everybody who voted for me, cheered for me, loved me…”
However, before the historic night could commence, actors, actresses, directors, and writers hit the red carpet for interviews and stunning pictures.
