The boiling hub of groundbreaking rappers from Florida has recently grown and mutated into an unstoppable phenomenon in hip-hop. Since Miami natives 2 Live Crew first encouraged a generation of artists to be as nasty as they wanna be in the early ’90s, veteran artists born and raised in the county of Dade like Trick Daddy, Cool & Dre, Pitbull, FLO-RIDA, Trina and Tallahassee native T-Pain have helped ascend Florida’s complex hip-hop scene from the bottom of the map to the top of the food chain.
For the past decade, the voice of 99 Jamz turned superstar DJ Khaled, We The Best’s Ace Hood, MMG’s Rick Ross, Torch, and Gunplay have held the torch through the streets of Carol City down to the glamorous walls of Club LIV in South Beach. Recently, the torch has been passed to seasoned local artists like North Miami native Denzel Curry, Billy Blue, WTB’s Kent Jones, and Mr. “Blow A Check” Zoey Dollaz in order to preserve the golden legacy their elders established long ago.
From the cultured streets of North Miami all the way up I-95 into the gritty streets of Pompano and towards the Palm Beaches, millennial artists from all over South Florida like Bizzy Crook, Denzel Curry, Kodak Black, and Pouya are paving new roads for the Miami legacy to expand on the ever-growing “cloud rap” scene.
These 30 Florida born artists from all over the Sunshine state are changing the game with each song they create.
