At the end of 2013, Top Dawg CEO Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith jumped on Twitter and told the world that TDE would be releasing six albums in 2014. So far, TDE is well on their way to meeting that goal. It’s only March and the label has already released a project from Isaiah Rashad, as well as one from ScHoolboy Q. But the stakes could be getting even higher as we move forward because, according to Tiffith, who spoke with Billboard about the future of TDE recently, we may be getting a TDE album that we weren’t necessarily expecting in 2014. That album is Kendrick Lamar’s sophomore project, the follow-up to 2012’s good kid, m.A.A.d city, which is tentatively scheduled to be released in September.
Tiffith didn’t talk about any specific details concerning Kendrick’s new project. There’s no album title yet. There’s no tracklist. Hell, for all we know, the album is still just a loose idea with a very, very, very flexible release date. But if nothing else, we now know that Kendrick is going to get back into the studio soon, if he hasn’t already, to work on his second major-label effort. Check out the 5 things we’d like to hear him do on it.
