Last night (Aug. 27), Def Jam-signed R&B artist Alessia Cara took center stage at New York City’s Bowery Ballroom, captivating all with her new and impressive breed of R&B star. Thanks to her debut single “Here,” the 19-year-old Brampton, Ontario native has emerged as a powerful voice for the youth with her unpretentious and unapologetic tone. Cara’s hit track has quickly solidified itself as a solid anthem for millennials, offering a fresh outlook on the world from her point of view. (Think Nirvana’s hit “Smells Like Teen Spirit” sans grunge guitar riffs and loud, hardcore vocals.)
After treating fans to an advance listening of her anticipated debut EP Four Pink Walls by leaking it two days before its Aug. 28 release, Cara continued her mini-tour that kicked off earlier this month in L.A. Sebastian Kole, singer/songwriter and co-producer of “Here,” and fellow Canadian crooner Craig Stickland accompanied Cara as the opening acts, delivering powerful performances.
