Parisian luxury brand Balmain and legacy imprint PUMA have united for a basketball-inspired capsule centered around “a special take on the historic Parisian house’s Balmain Court.”
“Back in 2019, I worked closely with the PUMA team on a boxing-inspired Balmain Court x PUMA offering,” stated Balmain’s Creative Director Olivier Rousteing. “Obviously, I loved creating that capsule—but for this second time around, I really wanted to set our focus on the thrills of basketball. Over here, we’re all big fans of lé basket and French people are extremely dedicated to their favorite American teams.”
He added, “Plus, honestly — is there any group of athletes more fashionable than basketball players? So, I’ve long believed that a mix of Balmain’s modern Parisian luxury codes and b-ball emotion would make for the perfect combination — and I am very happy that PUMA has joined with me and my team to help prove that hypothesis.”
The joint venture’s limited collection includes Balmain Court’s signature basketball sneakers, which have been altered with “a golden Balmain tongue label, Balmain and PUMA heel webbing, and a unique Balmain shoe box,” according to a press release obtained by VIBE. The special-edition sneakers include the finest Italian leather paired with athletic performance features like high-rebound ProFoam and high-abrasion rubber for multi-directional traction.
Aside from having sneakers to ball in, the collection also offers clothing items fit for athletes to warm up in and sport on (and off) the court. With a Parisian “savoir-faire” twist to popular American silhouettes, Balmain Court x PUMA provides warm-up and uniform suits, hats, T-shirts and even a varsity jacket based on the signature Balmain Teddy. To top the capsule, a sleek, black-and-gold, Balmain-logo’d basketball will be up for grabs.
All-star basketball players Skylar Diggins-Smith and Kyle Kuzma were tapped to rock the sporty line in Balmain and PUMA’s collaborative campaign. Kuzma was actually seen sporting his favorite items from the collection ahead of the Wizards versus Hornets game last week.
