As one final hoorah before the summer’s end, the Bud Light Party Convention series brought the party to New York City’s PlayStation Theater on Saturday (Aug. 27). And while it might have been the final farewell, there was no better way to wrap up the tour up than a couple of live performances from the likes of Big Sean, DNCE, and G-Eazy.
Upon arrival, attendees were showered with Bud Light-themed goodies before making their way into the intimate arena. It was the final stop on the 13-city voyage, so you already know they had to do it big. Host, Angela Yee handed off the stage to DNCE, MTV’s Best New Artist winner at the 2016 VMAs, and despite their title, the group, led by Joe Jonas, showed exactly how they plan to be around for many more years to come. Joe commanded the stage, mastering the vocals from their chart-topping hit, “Cake by the Ocean,” while the guitarist and bassist leapt from one end to the next, impressively playing their instruments without a glitch.
Their energy was only matched by The Bay’s, G-Eazy, who rolled through his hits, including “Me, Myself and I.” DNCE may have been the rock n’ roll portion of the night, but G-Eazy definitely brought that same sort of charisma to the stage, and even out the crowd when he spontaneously made his way into the sea of shouting fans.
But the moment everyone waited for was when Detroit’s finest, Big Sean, finally made it to the stage. The Def Jam/G.O.O.D. Music artist delivered a jam-packed set, chronicling his 13-year-old career with “I Do It,” “Blessings,” “All Your Fault,” and “On the Way” from his recently collaborated project, Twenty88 with Jhene Aiko. The rapper’s visuals and energy alone were enough to get the crowd bobbing their heads and rapping along, but the crowd’s enthusiasm was brought to new levels when DJ Khaled made a cameo. Together, the two got hype to “All I Do Is Win,” as well as the collaborated singles, “Holy Key” and “Work For It,” tracks off of Khaled’s new album, Major Key.
By the end of the night, the drinks had run out and the crowd’s voices were on the verge of cracking completely. But even so, no one seemed to walk out without a smile. And as Bud Light party goers made their way out into the bustling city to catch their Ubers or various means of transportation, Big Sean hinted for everyone to be on the look out for his next album.
