Through their respective relationships with Notorious B.I.G. and Jay-Z, Kim and Foxy were considered the two best female MCs in the game in the mid to late 1990s. But their worlds collided in 1999 when Kim threw shots at Foxy on “Play Around,” a track from Lil’ Cease’s The Wonderful World of Cease A Leo, and the title track from her second solo album, The Notorious K.I.M.
Fox Boogie retaliated with a scathing verse of her own on Capone-N-Noreaga’s 2001 hit, “Bang Bang,” which many believe resulted in the Hot 97 shooting in February 2001 that landed Kim in legal trouble later on and cooled off the beef. It restarted briefly in 2009 when Foxy threw a shot at Kim on a song called “Off the Muscle,” but after a decade-long hiatus, the only thing the track proved is that rap fans stopped caring about this feud a long time ago.
