When people usually say grits and biscuits, your mind automatically pictures a great, big bowl of your grandmother’s famous grits with some cheese on top and a biscuit on the side. But if you live in New York City, grits and biscuits has a completely different meaning to it.
Grits and Biscuits, one of the hottest — and we mean that in the literal sense — events in New York City has become one of the main reasons people come from all different cities to NYC. G&B is a six hour event full of fans waving in the air, girls twerking it and guys checking to see which chick can drop it lower all the while a set of dirty, down south music is blaring through the speakers. If you ever get the chance to attend a Grits and Biscuits event, be prepared because you will break a sweat, you will break night and you might just break a heel. Check out some of the photos from the Grits and Biscuits event that took place last weekend and what E.Z.Mo Breezy, the group that put the event together, had to say about it!

VIBE: How did the idea of Grits & Biscuits come about?
E.Z. Mo Breezy: Well all of us are from the south and I’ve been in New York for about a little over eight years and a little after I moved here, I would go parties in Brooklyn and lower Manhattan like Stevie Wonderful and Se’la parties and Prince versus Michael Jackson. And then there would be the opposite extreme of the club scene on the Westside where there is velvet rope and bottle service. And I love the Prince, I love all that but every once in a while you want to just shake something. All of us are god fearing folks out here, trying to build a career but ain’t nobody say you can’t shake a tail feather at the same time.

VIBE: Since you guys have been putting these events together since 2010, how do you make the next event better than the last?
E.Z.Mo Breezy: I don’t know if it’s necessarily we try to one up our sales. I think that one of the reasons this party has become a success is because we don’t put ourselves in the front. It is really important that the patrons come first. That’s why there is no VIP, no bottle service. If your a celebrity, you get treated no differently then someone who is not. I think the reason that the next party is better than the one previous is that the people are that much more excite about the next one than the previous one because of the experience they had. And we throw in stuff like we had the photo booth at this one. We always try to provide things for the patrons to make it an experience they can remember. So like the church fans and the photo booths, these are things that make the experience last a bit longer through memories.

VIBE: What do you attendees of the event to get out of it?
E.Z.Mo Breezy: We want them to walk in with the expectations of being able to let go and just dance as if you were back in the warehouse or the gym where you partied during your freshman year. What we want you to walk away with is fewer calories that you walked in with. Less stress than what you walked in with. We want your hair to look much worst than what it did when you walked in because all of those things mean you had a good time. And also walk away with a phone number or two, there’s nothing wrong with a little connection, a little networking.

VIBE: Where else would you like to do a Grits and Biscuits event besides NYC and DC?
E.Z.Mo Breezy: We’re looking at LA and Chicago.

VIBE: Have you guys thought of different genres themed events instead of Southern music to do?
E.Z.Mo Breezy: We do a party that’s called Saturday Morning cartoons and that’s 80’s and 90’s music.
VIBE: Is that your next event?
E.Z.Mo Breezy: Yes, we will probably be having one of those this Summer.

VIBE: What has been the best experience through all of these events for you guys?
Erica of E.Z.Mo Breezy: The best experience is different based on our roles. For me, it has been seeing how people have gravitated towards the event and kind of taking it as their own. Just seeing people taking it as their own and seeing the joy that people get from it. And also it’s just about the respect. I think that there is a certain respect we give to anyone we work with and to the people we party with and I think for the majority of the people that come to our events has given that same type of respect back to us and to each other and I think that is kind of beautiful to see. There were a lot of people there on Saturday and everybody was just having fun and I think that is a testament to having an ownership in the brand and also the level of respect we have for one another.
