New Jersey has been cranking out talented MCs for decades now: Wyclef Jean, Redman, Queen Latifah, Hodgy Beats and Joe Budden, to name a few. Besides Hodgy’s street sixteens and Budden’s emo raps, it’s been a while since a rapper put on for the Garden State.
That is until now.
Enter 24-year-old Patterson, NJ native Fetty Wap. With his infectious hit single “Trap Queen” , which peaked at No. 12 on Billboard’s Hot 100 charts, the trap artist has also inspired several remixes by French Montana, Fabolous, Lil’ Kim and Migos MC, Quavo. There’s even footage of Jay Z and Beyonce getting their boogie on to “Trap Queen.”
Not much is known about the MC with congenital glaucoma. So VIBE hit Fetty on the phone to discuss the people who’ve influenced his vocals, selling music out of the trunk of his car, possibly signing a record deal in 90 days and dreams outside of rap. Get (more) familiar with Fetty Wap above.
