When Drake drops a single, it’s an event. People listen. They listen for the appropriate real-life setting in which they’ll incorporate the song (i.e. treadmill, level 6). They listen for emo undertones that remind them of that guy or gal who got away. But on those anthems that are custom-made for stunting, listeners are checking for the lyrics. The punchlines, jabs, uppercuts—and misses. On his latest single from his Nothing Was The Same LP (out Sept. 17), Drake links with fellow masters of bravado, Big Sean and 2 Chainz.
