
For all the hoopla made over the NFL combine, I’m not sure why it’s so important. I won’t go as far to say putting potential draftees through tests to measure how athletic they are is useless, but a good performance during combine week shouldn’t determine what scouts think about how you’ll perform on Sundays.
Consider this, since 1999, when stats were officially recorded for the NFL combine, of the 18 players with speed times at or below 4.30 seconds in the 40-yard dash, only five have gone on to become Pro Bowl level players. Simply put, the football is a game based on speed, but more so timing and technique. Just to put that point in the end zone, here’s a group of guys who hold NFL Combine records that you’ve never of.
