Basketball on the beach?
It might sound crazy, but the good folks at Bacardi are masters at crafting unusual blends and making them work. That’s exactly what happened this weekend, as Entertainers Basketball Classic and Bacardi Flavored Rums took over Miami Beach to celebrate basketball culture, inviting teams from New York, Los Angeles, Miami, Atlanta and D.C. to compete for a $25,000 cash prize. All while highlighting Bacardi’s rum roster like Bacardi Mango Fusion, Bacardi Pineapple and the classic Bacardi Limón.
Rappers such as French Montana, Two Chainz, Jadakiss and Oun P came out to coach the respective teams that repped their home towns. The Hair-Weave-Killer and Team ATL took home the title, but the event itself spoke volumes for where streetball can go.
“Events like this are what separate EBC from other tournaments,” said New York based Oun P. “They brought there show on the road and you’ll see more of this in the future.”
Team NYC lost a hard fought championship game, but we spoke to Jadakiss about the event, his thoughts on New York’s potential rookie of the year, Bobby Shmurda and got his feelings on what’s taking place in Ferguson.
Kiss, I know you’re a huge, huge, basketball fan, so I want to know what you think about big sponsors like Bacardi getting involved with EBC?
I think Bacardi getting involved is an incredible thing, they’re a great sponsor for the EBC. It just makes the platform even bigger when big sponsors like that come to the forefront for these types of events. It’s just showing you where streetball is going.
