Rasheeda has come to terms with the reality of it all. The 31-year-old star of the hit TV show Love & Hip-Hop: Atlanta is well aware that to most novice fans she is known from the highly rated VH1 ratchet-fest. Indeed, Rasheeda has done her best to stay above the Stevie J/Evelyn fray. But she is quick to remind the world that she is still a hip-hop artist at heart. The gorgeous MC, who first came on the music scene dropping her 2001 solo debut Dirty South, is more at home in a recording booth than she is in front of a television camera.
“I’m trying to keep it independent with my music,” Rasheeda tells VIBE of her ongoing career outside of Love & Hip-Hop fame. “I’m real when I say Boss Chick…I’m so real about that movement. I’m not being a boss chick if I’m on a major and I’m not able to have complete control and I’m not owning my masters. I’m good just off of having a ‘My Bubble Gum’ (‘Got That God—My Bubble Gum’) that went platinum and ‘Marry Me’ selling over 200,000 copies and having a song like ‘Make It Vibrate,’ which I sold to Petey Pablo. Just stuff like that…so I’m good. I am working on a new album as we speak.”
