Call us biased but Kendrick Lamar should’ve headlined the Bacardi Triangle concert this past weekend in Puerto Rico. This isn’t a shot towards Bacardi’s event planners or world renowned EDM DJ Calvin Harris. We get it, the last act was meant to spearhead one giant party. But not even the world’s highest paid DJ could create the scene that King Kendrick caused.
One glance around Puerto Rico’s Palomino Island (where the event was held) during K. Dot’s performance was all it took to catch people from all corners of the globe crowd surfing and spitting lyrics from K-Dot’s catalog, specifically his new single “i”. The fact that Kendrick can now perform with a live band for a global audience is one of the many examples of his transcendence from hip-hop’s top tier to international star.
We talked with Kendrick about his position in music, working with a Soul god and more after the jump. — @LowerEastScribe
