Emmy-nominated Scandal star and mother of one, Kerry Washington covers SELF Magazine’s September issue.
A form fitting leotard-clad Washington serves fit and fab while flaunting her post-baby shape. Captured by photographer Bjarne Jonasson it’s apparent that Kerry’s snap back game is something serious. But according to the mother of 15 month-old Isabelle, she has no desire to return to her pre-baby body. “I’ve been really focused on not being ‘back’ to anything, but being the best version of myself right now,” she told SELF. “My body is the site of a miracle now. I don’t want to be pre-miracle.”
While she’s not concerned with counting calories and cutting back on carbs, Washington did divulge that Pilates is a must-have for her. You can usually find her on Scandal’s private Pilates studio two to six times a week to maintain her shape. “With Pilates, I get to bring my true self. I cry, I laugh. I get to go: Where is my body today? What do I need today? How can I take care of myself and push myself past my comfort zone? How can I be both loving and challenging?”
She also stresses the importance of exercise: “I have to take care of myself in order to live life the way I want to,” she says. “It’s important to have rest days. But in the long run, if I don’t work out for, like, three days, I feel worse, not better.”
