The first day of Life is Beautiful, Las Vegas’ downtown musical and culinary extravaganza, was a hot one. Temperatures in the afternoon peaked at 103 degrees, but in heat like that, there’s not much else to do but enjoy the sunshine (and drink a ton of water). In the shade of the #ToyotaMusic Den, however, things were significantly chiller, as a bevy of some of the festivals most exciting up and coming DJs and artists took the stage.
The day got started with a Q&A with Børns, who is gearing up to release his debut full-length next month. The Los Angeles-based musician took a break from his usual performances to reveal a hidden talent, as he and Yassir Lester performed their own rendition of “The Thong Song.” Did you know Børns could beat box? Well now you do. Next up, newcomer Wave Racer got the tent up and moving, with an inventive electronic set, that segued perfectly into Giraffage’s crowd-pleaser of a performance. Wave Racer set the tempo for a dance party, and Giraffage brought the hits — a winning combination as the heat broke and the day slowly transitioned into night.
It was still bright out when Cashmere Cat took the stage, playing more dance party ready tracks, including, of course, his collaborations with fellow Life is Beautiful-ee Ryn Weaver. The in-demand DJ also took the time out to sign autographs and pose for photos with fans, keeping the excitement high. DJ EbayNetflix brought the sun down with his set, which was heavy on the old-school hits. Parade of Lights chilled it out with an acoustic set, before Walshy Fire of Major Lazer brought the heat once again with the final set of the night, giving the lucky few in the tent a sneak peek of what was to come from his set later on in the evening.
