Angela Yee: Has there ever been a time where you feel like your pride has gotten in the way of having a real relationship? You know how people play games—you wanna call somebody but you don’t, because you don’t wanna seem thirsty.
August Alsina: Probably. I’m young so I ain’t really dealt with too many people. But usually I’m pretty straightforward and honest. And it is what it is. And however you feel is how you feel. But everybody got a little pride. Like, “I’m not gonna call her.” Nah saying?
Yee: You tell your friends that and then you text her.
Alsina: Exactly. I definitely did that before. Like, “Man, fuck her,” and then I text her. Pride is a big thing that gets in the way of a lot of relationships.
Yee: I agree. I believe pride is the number one killer of relationships.
Alsina: When really it don’t have to be all that, ’cause you got your understanding with that person. It’s all about communicating. Pride definitely causes a lack of communication.
Yee: You might never talk to somebody again because you don’t wanna be the first to call them, and they said they was gonna call you back.
Alsina: That’s so stupid. If you told me you were going to call me back and you didn’t call, I’d be like, “What’s up? I thought you said you was gonna call me back.”
Yee: Or people text you like, Oh, so you just not going to call me back? I’m like, well, you could just pick up the phone and call me. It’s not that serious.
Alsina: Exactly.
