A first-hand account of Yosra El-Essawy’s eye-opening exhibit in Londontown
On the hipster-chic streets of Shoreditch, London, photographer Yosra El-Essawy set up shop for her exhibition entitled “Eye.Soul.” Spinning the famous saying “The eyes are the window to the soul” into visuals, she captured the universal struggle of people of all colors through her lens.
El-Essawy, the British-Egyptian artist who graduated with honors in physiology at University College London, unexpectedly discovered her passion for photography while doing a favor for a friend. She has since travelled around the world, covering everything from Beyoncé’s Mrs. Carter World Tour to weddings to the Israel/Palestinian conflict. The underlying message in her work: the global community shares “the same needs and rights to freedom and justice.”
