Just days after President Barack Obama and Raul Castro sat down for their historic meeting in Panama, Questlove ventured out to La Llave del Caribe on a mission to captivate the hearts of the island’s people with his prowess behind the turntable.
He took to La Fabrica de Arte Cubano (FAC) for a night of spinning before a crowd of Cubanos (April 16 – 17), a tour de force in DJing for the young natives that consider Ahmir an Ambassador of Hip-Hop to the Caribbean nation.
Apart from fulfilling his musical duties, Quest also indulged in a little tourism, during which he visited Teatro America in Havana (where The Roots performed circa 2002). He also ran into famous salsa crew Azucar Negra, who was shooting a video at the time.
As the afro’d musician who has a knack for storytelling (See: “Mo’ Meta Blues”), Questo shared plenty of striking images throughout his excursion (above). That, plus the additional bevy of photos you’ll see below, is proof Cuba’s old-school beauty is worth seeing in person.
