In the days preceding America’s big fireworks holiday, Essence Festival threw the biggest party for black music and culture lovers down in New Orleans. Days were spent in the Convention Center for a host of empowerment sessions from hundreds of celebrities and personalities, but nights belonged to the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.
In the cool air-conditioning of the dome, Main Stage and Superlounge performances from the likes of Kendrick Lamar, Diddy and friends, Mariah Carey, Lady Leshurr, Maxwell, BJ the Chicago Kid, Common, New Edition, Little Simz, Ciara, Lalah Hathaway, Charlie Wilson, Kehlani and many more capped the night off on a high note. But like any crowd expected to gather at Essence Festival, the best part of the night was being able to reminisce on the music we grew up to, lived to and loved to.
VIBE was onsite to take in all the vibes and good music, and these are the throwback performances that stuck with us the most.
